With Hua Hua

Semenawa is a concept in Shibari that is often debated.

Semenawa is often translated as ‘torture’ rope, however, a more accurate term might be to describe it as ‘torment’. The intention is for both the rigger and model to be consciously embracing suffering when doing bondage, rather than it being a by-product of the experience, it is the aim. However, what can make it difficult to grasp is what suffering can add to the experience or take away from it and whether it is more about accepting or deriving pleasure from the suffering.

In this workshop, we will be exploring hua hua’s personal approach to Semenawa, including how she differentiates between torture and semenawa. Her semenawa is heavily influenced by her studies with Naka Akira and personal style of building scenes.

We will focus on the subtle nuances of creating a tormenting experience; edge play, timing and observation. hua hua will demonstrate how she attempts to find the right methods of Seme for each model she ties and encourages students to do the same. 

Requirements:
Experience with Gote shibari and suspension using a bamboo hard point
Rigger and model must have tied together before in Gote and suspension
Preferably paired with a familiar partner
Both model and rigger must have evaluated their risk profile before this class and prepared to discuss their limits verbally
An interest in semenawa, sadism or being challenged 

Materials:
10-12 long ropes of 7-10m
Some short pieces of ropes will be useful as well
Cloth for gags/blindfold (bandana will also work)

Level: intermediate to advanced
Skills: tying with intention, naka-style ties, predicament play, partial and possibly suspension

$70 deposit online, $180 cash at the start of class. $250 total.
