Hishi Logic

Hishi Logic

with William

Diamonds are timeless.

This workshop will explore traditional ties that are based on the Japanese Hishi pattern, a series of diamond shapes that can create bondage that is both beautiful and structural.  Hishi ties are incredibly versatile and can be applied in a variety of ways that can easily be tailored to any body shape.  This style of tying can be used to create hands free and gote ties with the hands bound behind the back and can be applied as arm and leg binders.

We will be presenting a series of ties that evolve from simple to more complex so that students who are still getting comfortable with single and double column ties can build their technique.  Those who are more practiced will have plenty of space to try more complicated variations. We will also introduce up lines for the final exercise and create a simple partial suspension.  As these are introductory exercises, no previous suspension experience is required to participate.

Attendees should bring a rope kit of 10pcs of varying lengths if possible or 7 full and three half lengths.

Exercises will include-

  • Review of Single and Double Column Ties

  • Hands free Hishi Chest Harness

  • Hands Behind Back (Gote) Hishi Harness

Prerequisite: Rope0

RSVP $75 per pair

  • If cost is prohibitive please reach out, two discounted tickets are available per event.

Surrender to Resistance

Surrender to Resistance

Surrender to Resistance

With Margherita

An embodied container for rope exploration

This workshop is mostly focused on bottoming techniques that can help us navigate the choice we always have between surrendering and resisting in rope. It might even guide us to a broader understanding of active and passive bottoming, creating more nuance in the definition of all these related concepts and how they manifest in the body.

We will discuss what each means to us and why we might choose one or the other for strategic decisions related to both emotional and physical impact, but most of all, we will practice them in relation to physics, intention, and safety.

Rope may be used for partial or full suspension if desired. If you don’t self-tie, you’re encouraged to partner up with someone to swap roles and learn through both perspectives.

Rope tops are MORE than welcome, as this class will highlight useful ideas to explore and understand what our partners in rope might be going through or need in a tie (you might even find this a sneaky masterclass in empathy and a secret manual to body mechanics).

Pre-requisite if planning on tying:
A simple chest harness, thigh cuff, and/or hip harness.
Sturdy upline.

RSVP is $60 per person

Complicating Consent

Complicating Consent

Complicating Consent

with Fig

Not a consent 101. This is a 4 hour deep dive that breaks out of conventional models of consent used to hang on to the comfortable illusion of safety.

This class deals with uncomfortable realities of consent in kink and releasing yourself from the impossible task of creating a safe container for play. We will touch on practicing consent within the context of our nonconsensual oppressive society, personal and systemic trauma and confront the draw to danger, risk, and the eroticization of violation.

This class is for edgy players who want to explore the realms of play that cannot be contained in SSC or RACK and for those curious to expand their consent practice using a harm reduction framework that asks what happens when (not if) things go wrong?

More details:

  • This is a 4 hour class which is a pretty long time to be presented with a lot of intense (potentially triggering) information.

  • There will be planned breaks for folks to care for their bodies as needed. We encourage folks to do and bring what they need to in order to stay engaged with a long class!

  • The class is mostly lecture and discussion based. Feel free to bring supplies to take notes!

Instructor Bio:
Fig , LCSW, organizes kinky community in upstate NY and  is a liberation centered, queer, trans, polyamory and kink-affirming mental health therapist of color. It works primarily with queer and trans folks, exploring diverse issues including systemic oppression, trauma, and dismantling sexual shame. It particularly loves anti-carceral relationship building and exploring kink as a therapeutic tool. Previous to becoming a therapist, Fig has experience as a queer trans and kink centered sex educator, pro dom and has been actively exploring kink for a decade.

In Fig’s personal life they are a faggy leatherfreak with a penchant for being the best community hole it can be. Fig has a mean sadistic daddy streak for those lucky enough to encounter her scary side. Fig loves creating pervy pleasure joy centered spaces for themself and other freaks.  It has a voracious appetite for exploring the psychological effects of kink using different mediums including sadomasochism, rope, sharps, fluids and creative fucked up role play.

Forms: Agura

with Syd

Through in depth guided instruction and hands-on practice we will examine the artistry and function of commonly seen static shapes. Emphasis will be placed on creative expression, sustainability in suspension, and awareness of safety and risk considerations.  Students will refine their rope handling, tension, control, precision, and flow, while continuing to build the scaffolding of their rope technique.

This class is best suited for tying partners who have a strong grasp of fundamentals (see prerequisites below) and tie together frequently. This class is not recommended as anyone’s first suspension, but all steps will be shown in full.

These forms will be demonstrated with a stemless TK.  It’s *not required* for students to recreate the tie with a TK, and students will always be encouraged to adapt their ties to their wants and needs.  Adaptability, sustainability, and creativity will be greatly emphasized and encouraged in this class. Some time will be dedicated to each class to work through the nuances and particularities of the TK or the harness alternative of the students choosing.

Prerequisites:
Rigger prerequisites:
Rope0
experience building and assessing suspendable harnesses
some experience with tk is encouraged but not required
some experience building static uplines
confident in rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope

Bottom prerequisites:
confident in-rope communication skills
knowledge of safety and risk in rope
confident ability to monitor and communicate signs of nerve compression
some experience with tk is encouraged but not required

Supplies:

Wheel of Consent Workshop

with Beth and Phoebe

What do I want? How do I ask for it? An Introduction to the Wheel of Consent
*Please note this workshop is a different offering than our monthly Wheel of Consent Practice Circle*

The Wheel of Consent, developed by Betty Martin, is a wonderful framework and practice to help us ask for what we want and disrupt patterns of going along, and ignoring our yeses and nos. This workshop is not about consent in the way we have been taught to understand it, but about making agreements that allow for expressing our desires and noticing our limits. Experience the joy of receiving exactly what you want, and giving with a full, authentic yes! This is a potent practice for those involved in kink/BDSM but will also transform the way you hold agreements in all of your relationships.

There will be solo and paired exercises, and opportunities for reflection and discussion. You will be able to participate by doing or observing, and request that the exercises be nontouch, if preferred.

Seating is mostly on the floor on mats (There are few seats available on a small couch.) Please note: space opens 15 minutes before the start of the circle. Please give yourself time to arrive and ground in the space to start on time with the opening circle.

Facilitator Bios:

Beth Poague (bethpoague.com) is a curious, queer forest dweller living in the Hudson Valley. Beth has a Master’s degree in Social Justice Educational Studies, with a focus on disability justice and inclusion. She is a Certified Wheel of Consent Facilitator-in-training (schoolofconsent.org), and trained in restorative practices and conflict resolution, including circle-keeping, transformative mediation, and group facilitation. She thinks a lot about somatics and co-regulation, neurodivergence and trauma, healing and connection, abolitionism, collective care, nature and poetry.

Phoebe Zinman (she/her) is a longtime nonprofit professional, working at the intersection of art and social justice. She first got interested in the Wheel of Consent in 2021, took Like A Pro with Betty Martin in 2023, and Wheel of Consent for Queers in 2024. It has been a transformative framework and she loves to share it with others. She is a disabled writer, artist, mother, and book nerd with a passion for trash tv.

Taut & Bound

Taut & Bound

with Master R and Toolboi

Taut & Bound is a rope study session focused on tying male-identified, masc-presenting, and non-binary bodies often underserved by rope bondage instruction. We ask: How do anatomical differences of masculine bodies shift the way we tie?

Each session opens with introductions and house rules, and may feature a guest instructor sharing techniques informed by their experience with masculine bodies. Structured practice with support follows, closing with a brief group discussion and open tying time.

Attendees should have a foundational understanding of rope bondage, including rope safety, risks and a single-column tie. This may be gained through Rope0, other classes or events, mentorship, or self-directed study.

This session is not suitable for absolute beginners, rope bottoms without a regular tying partner, those who do not switch,  or those who self-tie. Participants may attend individually, with the expectation of being flexible about switching partners, or attend as a pair with a regular tying partner.

Please bring rope and cutting tools. Wear clothes that are comfortable to tie in. No nudity is permitted in the space.

Facilitator Bios:

Tyler (he/him) is a queer artist whose work centers on rope bondage. He has been tying for ten years; his practice explores the internal and external dynamics of Dominant/submissive relationships through rope. Beyond performance, he is a community educator and organizer, producing events such as Bound Affairs: A Living Shibari Gallery and Out Young N Kinky (OYNK), a monthly kink education panel. He has taught at MMX Yoga, Knotty New York, Men Roping Men and serves as the instructor for shibari clubs at three colleges.

Zed Sheng aka Toolboi (he/him) is a performer, artist, educator,  and academic pursuing a PhD in performance studies. He has had experience being tied for over a decade, and is learning how to tie and switch over the past four years. Body Bamboo

Body Bamboo

with William

In this workshop, William will be demonstrating multiple ways to tie off to a bamboo pole quickly and securely and showing ways to incorporate body bamboo into your ties.  Body Bamboo is a great way to add rigid structure into your floor work, predicaments and full suspension scenes.  We will be playing with floor and partial predicaments including introductions to setting up lines.  Body bamboo is a wonderful way to add structure and intensity to your rope play especially if you don’t have access to hardpoints on a regular basis.

We’ll be going over specific hitches to use and various lashing styles.  Ideally, participants will be comfortable forming and using single column ties, hojo cuff construction as well as at least one simple hands free chest harness.

Prerequisite: Rope0

  • Temple does have some body bamboo available for class use but please bring a piece of bamboo that is between 1-2” thick and 3-5ft in length if you have it.

  • All couples should bring a kit of 6-10 ropes, ideally jute or hemp and not synthetic ropes.

  • Bring a minimum of 8pcs of Jute Rope about 8M in length

  • This is a Coupled Ticket, best that couples have previous tieing experience together.

RSVP $75 per pair

  • If the event is sold out, you can sign up for a WAITLIST HERE.

  • Two 40% discount tickets are available per event for PoC, sex workers, and trans folks. Please reach out for the code.

Wheel of Consent

Wheel of Consent Practice Circle

with Beth and Masha

The Wheel of Consent, developed by Betty Martin, is a wonderful framework to help us ask for what we want, to find our pleasure, and to deepen our capacity for authentic connection, intimacy and compassion. Learning about the different quadrants (Serve, Take, Accept and Allow) can help bring clarity around giving and receiving and distinguishing between who is doing and who it’s for. Practicing the Wheel through touch exercises helps to bring the quadrants into our bodies!

This offering will be an opportunity for ongoing practice of the Wheel of Consent, through solo and paired exercises, discussion, and reflection. This is for you if you are familiar with the Wheel of Consent, or would like to learn more! Bring your curiosity and join us!
**If you are interested in a longer workshop, please attend our Introduction to the Wheel of Consent on April 11!**

Participants are welcome to participate or observe, or request that the exercises be non-touch. Seating is mostly on the floor on mats (There are few seats available on a small couch.) We will have some cushions and pillows available, if you are able please bring a small pillow and/or blanket. Please note: space opens 15 minutes before the start of the circle. Due to the sensitive subject of this workshop, please give yourself time to arrive and ground in the space to start on time with the opening circle.

Facilitator Bios:

Beth Poague (bethpoague.com) is a curious, solo poly, queer, forest dweller living in the Hudson Valley. She came to rope and kink relatively late in life, and has been doing suspension for four years. Beth has a Master’s degree in Social Justice Educational Studies, with a focus on disability justice and inclusion. She is currently training to be a Certified Wheel of Consent Facilitator (schoolofconsent.org), and also trained in restorative practices and conflict resolution, including circle-keeping, transformative mediation, and group facilitation. She thinks a lot about somatics and co-regulation, neurodivergence and trauma, healing and connection, abolitionism, collective care, nature and poetry.

Masha (theropejourney.com) has been a rope practitioner on both sides of the rope since 2018 and weaves together 30 years of experience as a nurse and midwife, and more recent studies in somatic trauma therapy and psychedelic healing, with her love of Japanese-inspired rope bondage. As a rope educator since 2022, she has been teaching consent in the context of rope and co-developed the beginner rope curriculum at Temple. She loves to create rope learning spaces where people can slow down enough to attune to themselves and each other, perceive their bodies, and feel their feelings. The Wheel of Consent has been an inspiration for this work and she has been deepening her understanding of this framework through workshops and self study. She is thrilled about the opportunity for regular WoC practice within the rope community!

Tengu and Shapes That Go With It

Tengu and Shapes That Go With It

With Sydona

A deep dive into the Tengu – a sustainable yet restrictive chest harness, and the shapes that go with it. Each class will focus on a distinct form, varying in intensity and complexity, examining how the Tengu’s structure, as opposed to any other chest harness, influences both the aesthetic and sensory experience of each position. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, we will analyze the nuances of tension, weight distribution, and body mechanics to refine our comfort, control, and flow.

This class is best suited for tying partners who have a strong grasp of fundamentals (see prerequisites below) and tie together frequently. This class is not recommended as anyone’s first suspension, but all steps, including building uplines, will be shown in full.

The first portion of this class will be spent “pattern building” the Tengu. Students will be guided through variations and adaptations so that they can create the ~Tengu of their dreams~ crafted perfectly for them. Adaptability, sustainability, and creativity will be greatly emphasized and encouraged in this class.

Prerequisites:
For riggers: rope0, experience building suspendable harnesses, some experience building static uplines, confident in rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope

For bottoms: confident in-rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope, confident ability to monitor signs of nerve compression

Supplies:
One full rope kit. This class will be taught on bamboo, no additional rigging gear is required.

Ipponawa

Ipponawa/ 1 Rope

with William

Let’s strip it down to the bare essentials, 2 people and one rope.  Let’s explore how we communicate, how we interact, how we engage with one another without relying on elaborate harnesses or uplines.  Instead of focusing on the rope and the knots, can we focus on our partner with intentional quietude enough to actually listen and perceive? Ipponawa is an essentialist style of tying that relies on the fundamental essence, the very best part of Shibari, connection with ourselves and with our partners.

We will be working through a series of exercises designed to achieve maximal restriction with minimal means, playing with how tempo and gusto affect our experiences of tying and being tied, while learning how to better convey our intentions through the rope directly.

This is a great opportunity for couples who tie together often to go deeper into their practice together.  And for couples getting to know each other, this may be a guide or a good entry point to building intimacy.

Requirements:
One Rope, Two people

Roped-In

Roped-In: the second step in Temple’s progressive core curriculum

A weekend intensive on the foundations of rope play through the lens of embodiment and intentionality. February 14th and 15th, 12pm-5pm.

Join Masha and Marghy on this journey to begin an intentional, body-based, connective rope practice. While lots of time will be spent on rope handling and skill building, this course will focus on both ends of the rope, to serve both folks giving and receiving it. Switching is welcome but not necessary!

The classes will cover:
Day 1: Basic tension, frictions, and knots; collapsible and non-collapsible single-column ties. Risk assessment and mitigation, nerve safety overview. Body handling and affective rope skills; how to move a body; how to use rope to move a body. Double-column ties.

Day 2: Somatics for rope; Hojo cuffs and Yuki fix; One-rope practice (Ipponnawa). Floor-based ties; how to use rope to bind a body in a shape for play.

Prerequisite: Rope0

Each session includes a discussion, a short demo, and plenty of practice time, leading to building a full, floor-based rope scene. Registered pairs should remain the same throughout (learning buddies are the best!).

Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome, and any comfortable outfit you like to move in. We will have some jute rope to use for practice, but we encourage you to bring your own (so you can practice at home between sessions!). 2-3 pieces will suffice, any material is welcome.

RSVP is $280 per tying pair for both days

Deepdive on Torsions

Deepdive on Torsions: understanding the spine in suspension

with Kasm and Anoxia

Get nerdy about anatomy, and learn about the biomechanics of torsion. This class will cover how to get in and out of torsions, how to prepare and protect your body, and offer some hands-on exercises to understand torsions more deeply. We’ll explore how factors like height, harness, body position, and load point affect the torsions we can create. This class is a combination of lecture, demo, and hands on tying.

Class Prerequisites:
For folks tying:
- Must be able to tie a suspendable upper-body harness (ideally in a timely manner)
- Must be able to tie a suspendable thighs-together structure (can be a simple double-column, or a mermaid/willow tie, etc etc)
- Must be able to tie a suspendable single column tie
- Must know top and bottom lock-offs for uplines on a single point
- Must be able to assess and solve for nerve issues in your choice of harnesses
- Must be able to communicate with your tying partner in suspension

For folks being tied:
- Must be experienced in rope suspension
- Must be able to sustain multiple 20-30 minute sequences
- Must be able to safely twist in your spine to both sides
- Must be able to assess risk of muscle strain or injury in your body
- Must be able to assess and solve for nerve issues in your choice of harnesses
- Must be able to communicate with your tying partner in suspension

Pre-reqs are non-negotiable, and students who do not demonstrate proficiency in the required tied structures will be asked not to suspend.

Class Materials:
-
Ropes for your suspendable upper and lower body ties (likely 3-8 ropes)
- Ropes for your uplines (at least 3)
- Rigging materials for single-point suspension (this can be a ring, rigging plate, carabiners, etc)
- Safety shears or another appropriate cutting tool
- Anything else you might want for class (water, blanket, snacks, note taking tools)

Instructor Bios:
Kasm and Anoxia have been partners in life and in rope since 2018; tying, teaching, and performing together. They have presented in classes and intensives across the US, as well as at large kink conferences like Ropecraft, Kinkfest, Tethered Together, and Desert Bound.

Anoxia (they/them) is a switch based out of Chicago, who started in rope in 2015. Over the years, they’ve had the opportunity to study in many different styles with educators in the US, Europe, and Japan. They present classes which go beyond patterns and rote memorization to teach underlying principles relevant to students at any point in their rope journey. Nox also currently serves on the NARIX steering committee. In play, their rope is often intense, creative, dynamic, and charged with emotional sadism. They can be found as Anoxia on fetlife, and anoxiarope on instagram.

Kasm (they/them) is a queer, kinky switch and self-tier who started teaching in 2018. In the classroom they prioritize personalized instruction and building an environment that is safe to flail in. In their personal practice they enjoy exploring intimacies and modes of play through the lens of rope bondage, with a focus on movement driven scenes and sadomasochistic play. Improvised Harnesses

Improvised Harnesses

with Kasm and Anoxia

This class explores the art and structure of improvised harnesses — creating intentional, creative designs beyond standard forms. We’ll dive into how to predict and manage load, assess risk and safety, and apply foundational structural principles to support both function and aesthetic. Students will learn to make thoughtful, informed choices about tension, line placement, and body balance, developing a deeper understanding of how structure can shape experience. This class emphasizes creativity, adaptability, and structural awareness as tools for expressive, interesting, functional rope.

Intro to Movement Rope

Introduction to Movement Rope

with Kasm and Anoxia

This three-hour, hands-on class that distills the core principles of movement-informed tying—drawing inspiration from contact improv, social dance, and theater—to help rope practitioners explore rope as a shared, responsive experience. We’ll focus on attunement, connection, and movement fluency, introducing foundational techniques for incorporating improvised and intentional motion into your tying. Through guided drills, partnered exercises, and simple floorwork, you’ll learn how to use your body to listen, communicate, and shape your tying in a way that prioritize presence and play. This class centers “yes-and” tying, where curiosity leads and the rope follows.

Prerequisites (for both people in a pair):
-
Familiarity with each other as tying partners
- An arms-out chest harness that works for you both
- Knowledge of common rope risks and risk mitigation strategies
- Physical ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, and have basic standing balance

Equipment:
-
4-6 piece rope kit
- Cutting tool

Rope. Character. Scene.

Rope. Character. Scene.

Rope. Character. Scene.

with Kasm and Anoxia

Rope can be a powerful medium for exploring desire, yet many of us fall back on familiar narratives and struggle to access fresh emotional terrain. This class introduces the use of devised character—character discovered through play—to help us break out of these patterns and find surprising new paths our rope practice can take us down.

Through guided exercises, we’ll explore tools for discovering characters and motives, expand our toolkit of non-verbal communication, and challenge paradigms about the role of rope in our scenes. Whether you’re new to rope, new to character work, or simply looking to shake up old patterns, this class offers an easy and welcoming entry point to attune to desire in rope.

Pre-requisites:
Come ready with curiosity and a willingness to engage with discomfort. Tying pairs should feel comfortable exploring the unknown together and have the negotiation skills necessary to navigate that exploration safely and consensually.

Equipment:
-
1-5 ropes
- Cutting tool
- Clothing that is easy to move in

Instructor Bios:

Forms: Futomomo

Rigger prerequisites:
experience building and assessing suspendable harnesses
some experience with tk is encouraged but not required
some experience building static uplines

During these escalating ties, we will be going over body movement techniques, rope handling tips and tricks, and how to combine single and double column ties with hojo cuffs while employing a variety of frictions.  If you’re new to futomomos (leg binds) we’ll be going over simple versions that are great for floor ties and partials.

BDSM and Death

BDSM and Death: Ritual, Morality and Memento Mori

with Akasha Eden

This class examines death as a concept and asks what it means to live, play, and love while holding death close at hand — think of terms like “ego death” or the French “la petite mort” (climax), or of families promenading to cemeteries to visit their loved ones at rest. Together, we will draw on concepts from philosophers like Socrates, Marcus Aurelius, and Montaigne to discuss historical and cultural perspectives on death in sensual and ritual practice; negotiating edgeplay and symbolic death in scenes; and ethical considerations for mortality-themed play. This class is not about glorifying death, but about cultivating intentionality and contemplating life by exploring and acknowledging its nature.

This is mainly a lecture class on a contemplative practice, but folks are welcome to bring rope and use it on themselves or others as the presentation itself moves them (at their individual appropriate level).

Materials:
Rope optional but encouraged, notebooks or typing devices for notetaking.
