Strappado
Strappado
With Tamandua
Tamandua will teach his most commonly used strappado, offering both an elbows together and elbows apart variation, designed to work both as a standalone tie and as part of a suspension. We will cover the function of each part of the tie, how it behaves under load, and how to manage tension and positioning effectively. Anatomy and body response in the strappado will be a key focus, as this tie carries a higher risk for nerve and shoulder issues. We will address common causes of problems and practical ways to prevent or resolve them.
Prerequisites:
Students tying should have prior experience with chest harnesses and be familiar with basic rope handling and tension control. Students should have some experience building and assessing uplines, and should have confidence in rope communication skills and knowledge of risk and safety in rope suspension.
Those in rope should have confident in-rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope suspension, and confident ability to monitor signs of nerve compression.
Instructor Bio:
Tamandua (he/him) is a Swedish kinbaku instructor and rope switch based in Berlin.
He has been working with rope professionally since 2016, offering intimate sessions and advanced shibari education, and traveling the world to teach his perspective on tying and to being tied. He is a queer person, who appreciates tying with people of various gender. As a switch, he draws his inspiration both from the models/bottoms he ties with, and the riggers/rope tops he models for, which has allowed him to experience various styles from the inside as well.
‘I consider kinbaku to be a complex erotic art, which is empathetically sadomasochistic at it’s core. Often tying in a way that can be challenging both for the one tying and the one in the
ropes, my Shibari usually demands a lot of technical clarity when in the role of a teacher. At the same time, the student’s individuality is a priority when it comes to learning methods and intention. I view Kinbaku as a practice of continuous exploration – where new doors open as you go deeper and further with a partner, over the course of a session, or over the course of a long partnership. Sometimes though, the magic that defines Kinbaku can be just that one alluring image that sticks with you, a moment suspended in time. For me, the essence of Kinbaku lies in the meeting between the aesthetic expression and the emotional and sensual intention of the practice. And the more ones tying develop, the more seamlessly the parts can intermingle.’

Wheel of Consent
Wheel of Consent Practice Circle
with Beth and Masha
The Wheel of Consent, developed by Betty Martin, is a wonderful framework to help us ask for what we want, to find our pleasure, and to deepen our capacity for authentic connection, intimacy and compassion. Learning about the different quadrants (Serve, Take, Accept and Allow) can help bring clarity around giving and receiving and distinguishing between who is doing and who it’s for. Practicing the Wheel through touch exercises helps to bring the quadrants into our bodies!
This offering will be an opportunity for ongoing practice of the Wheel of Consent, through solo and paired exercises, discussion, and reflection. This is for you if you are familiar with the Wheel of Consent, or would like to learn more! Bring your curiosity and join us!
Participants are welcome to participate or observe, or request that the exercises be non-touch. Seating is mostly on the floor on mats (There are few seats available on a small couch.) We will have some cushions and pillows available, if you are able please bring a small pillow and/or blanket. Please note: space opens 15 minutes before the start of the circle. Due to the sensitive subject of this workshop, please give yourself time to arrive and ground in the space to start on time with the opening circle.
Facilitator Bios:
Beth Poague (bethpoague.com) is a curious, solo poly, queer, forest dweller living in the Hudson Valley. She came to rope and kink relatively late in life, and has been doing suspension for four years. Beth has a Master’s degree in Social Justice Educational Studies, with a focus on disability justice and inclusion. She is currently training to be a Certified Wheel of Consent Facilitator (schoolofconsent.org), and also trained in restorative practices and conflict resolution, including circle-keeping, transformative mediation, and group facilitation. She thinks a lot about somatics and co-regulation, neurodivergence and trauma, healing and connection, abolitionism, collective care, nature and poetry.
Masha (theropejourney.com) has been a rope practitioner on both sides of the rope since 2018 and weaves together 30 years of experience as a nurse and midwife, and more recent studies in somatic trauma therapy and psychedelic healing, with her love of Japanese-inspired rope bondage. As a rope educator since 2022, she has been teaching consent in the context of rope and co-developed the beginner rope curriculum at Temple. She loves to create rope learning spaces where people can slow down enough to attune to themselves and each other, perceive their bodies, and feel their feelings. The Wheel of Consent has been an inspiration for this work and she has been deepening her understanding of this framework through workshops and self study. She is thrilled about the opportunity for regular WoC practice within the rope community!

A Tk-less Intensive
A Tk-less Intensive
With Tamandua
Tamandua visits NYC to share his personal approach to Kinbaku, through some of his commonly used ties and techniques, this time using only non-tk harnesses. The class concept will focus a lot on the ability to manage the intensity of a tie with subtle adjustments and calm assertiveness. During the workshop Tamandua will show some ties that when executed correctly, allow the top to easily control how intense they are for the bottom. The idea is to develop more confidence to play, especially in the territory of Semenawa – tormenting rope. Guidance on how to tie and get tied more fluently, in a more natural feeling way, using body/rope management and communicative cues, will be a big part of the learning material for both tops/riggers and bottoms/models. Tamandua and his partner will explain how these factors play into the ‘soft skills’ of rope bondage, and into the power exchange principles of erotically tormenting rope.
Each tie will be introduced through the basic building blocks which it is made up of. By learning the technical details of the harnesses used, exploring how they feel and function under load of suspension and simpler applications, this collected knowledge gets put to the test when we enjoy longer and (for top and bottom) more challenging ties.
Prerequisites:
This workshop is meant for advanced students with a strong grasp of fundamentals and some experience working in suspension. Folks tying should have some experience building and assessing suspendable structures and multiple uplines, should be able to follow patterns quickly, and all students should have excellent in rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope, and confident ability to monitor signs of nerve compression.

The Body in Ropes
The Body in Ropes - Class and Lab
With Tamandua
In this workshop, we will explore how rope creates unique physical and sensory experiences. Through movement, palpation, body manipulation, and simple tying, we will examine how classic kinbaku shapes affect the body and what adjustments can improve comfort, function, and safety. We will also look at the anatomy behind common ties and share practical tips for both riggers and models.
For the second half of the day, students will be given space to work on ties or techniques of their choice that they want to improve or problem solve with guidance from an Tam.
Prerequisites:
This part hands-on, part discussion, and part guided lab is meant for advanced students with a strong grasp of fundamentals and some experience working in suspension. Folks tying should have some experience building an assessing suspendable structures and multiple uplines, and all students should have excellent in rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope, and confident ability to monitor signs of nerve compression.

TK Foundation
TK Foundation
(AKA: the Takate Kote, Gote or Box Tie)
With William
Who’s afraid of the big bad Tekate Kote? Me too.
This tie is seminal to the practice of Shibari, legendary and ubiquitous, but it is also well known for being dangerous for a variety of reasons. Rather than avoiding this iconic tie, let’s study and practice it together in order to have it as a functional part of our harnessing skillset.
In this workshop, we will be working on the first two ropes that form the essential foundation of almost any variation of Tekate Kote. More importantly, we will be focusing on setting our bodies to their optimal posture for receiving these ropes. We will also be discussing nerve pathways and inherent risks of over-arm ties as well as introducing or reviewing up lines. This class will set you up to have a much better understanding of the basic form, ways to create optimal tension, and how to mitigate and manage risk. Participants will be able to learn a wide variety of TK structures building on this essential foundation. William will offer variations to suit people with less flexibility as well as hypermobile/ hyper flexible bodies.
Prerequisite = Rope0 + Roped In
Bring a minimum of 5pcs of Jute Rope about 8M in length
This is a Coupled Ticket, best that couples have previous tieing experience together.

Gote Styles
Gote Styles
With Hua Hua
In my Shibari Journey I have come across many different styles and learned from different teachers. The most fundamental tie that sets each style apart is the Gote.
Gote reminds me a lot of the different stances in martial arts, it sets you up for vastly different purposes and ways of playing with rope.
Yes it is largely known for its versatility in suspension, however different approaches from Gote Shibari can offer more than a way of suspending, but also “why you tie”, the real intention behind the act of tying.
Gote is often the beginning and end of a session, it can be like returning home
Not only the different intentions of the rigger, but also different aesthetic tastes, different ways of bottoming and different rhythms.
I will share my experience learning from Naka Akira, Kinoko Hajime and Yukimura Ryu via Murasaki Haruan.
I will ask students to share the Gote’s that they use and why (a bit like show and tell).
I will demonstrate how these different Gote’s create different physical and emotional responses.
I will share some background as to where these differences came from (e.g rope for performance, rope+ other SM play and rope for photography).
I will teach the Gote that I tie the most, which I learned originally from Naka Akira and share why I use this Gote.
Students should have prior experience with tying Gotes and come with a partner who can sustain being in this tie multiple times.
Level: intermediate-advanced
Skills: comparing different gote styles, understanding history and context behind the designs.
Lecture and discussion format with demonstrations and then practicing a Gote from start to finish.

Semenawa
Semenawa
With Hua Hua
Semenawa is a concept in Shibari that is often debated.
Semenawa is often translated as ‘torture’ rope, however, a more accurate term might be to describe it as ‘torment’. The intention is for both the rigger and model to be consciously embracing suffering when doing bondage, rather than it being a by-product of the experience, it is the aim. However, what can make it difficult to grasp is what suffering can add to the experience or take away from it and whether it is more about accepting or deriving pleasure from the suffering.
In this workshop, we will be exploring hua hua’s personal approach to Semenawa, including how she differentiates between torture and semenawa. Her semenawa is heavily influenced by her studies with Naka Akira and personal style of building scenes.
We will focus on the subtle nuances of creating a tormenting experience; edge play, timing and observation. hua hua will demonstrate how she attempts to find the right methods of Seme for each model she ties and encourages students to do the same.
Requirements:
Experience with Gote shibari and suspension using a bamboo hard point
Rigger and model must have tied together before in Gote and suspension
Preferably paired with a familiar partner
Both model and rigger must have evaluated their risk profile before this class and prepared to discuss their limits verbally
An interest in semenawa, sadism or being challenged
Materials:
10-12 long ropes of 7-10m
Some short pieces of ropes will be useful as well
Cloth for gags/blindfold (bandana will also work)
Level: intermediate to advanced
Skills: tying with intention, naka-style ties, predicament play, partial and possibly suspension

Performance Night
With Hua Hua
HuaHua is an artist and a storyteller. She works to build and share stories from the raw material of her experience and her surroundings. Rather than considering this a performance in the traditional sense, HuaHua will create an immersive experience that includes the audience rather than leaving a space between audience and artist. She will create space to pervert power structures, group dynamics and the expectations of entertainment. Rather than coming as a passive observer, come as a co-creator in a collective experiment.

Salon Day
Salon Day
With Hua Hua
The beauty of Shibari is best expressed in intimate gatherings. Over the past 20 years the Shibari world has exploded out of the underground with events worldwide getting bigger in scale and mostly centred around workshops. However in this event we will go back to the roots, creating a space for people to gather and enjoy Shibari together regardless of skill level, experience or style.
This event is inspired by my salon that I used to run monthly in Shanghai called '私会‘. The aim for this Salon is to give people the opportunity to exchange skills, insights and appreciate the friendship that is created through ropes. A salon can be better described as a rope meeting, with emphasis on being an interactive experience as a whole group rather than having a divide between the facilitator and audience. After holding many workshops and performances I have come to realise that my favourite way to enjoy Shibari will always be in a casual, intimate environment; where we can tie, talk, drink tea and eat together, to freely enjoy Shibari without inhibition. This is not a performance or jam, participants are encouraged to participate in the activities and get to know others in this space at a slow pace.
People may enter and exit the studio freely throughout the day and are welcome to bring food to eat in the space. There will be a programme of different activities, and the aim is to provide an opportunity to exchange skills, conversation and create connection through our shared passion for Shibari. Tying is only a fraction of the event and I encourage participants to come to share stories and be open to discussing all things in and around rope.
General Program:
Tea time- As a lover of tea and tea ceremony, we will open the event with discussions over chinese tea. We can discuss rope or anything around it and I will share some stories from my experience in this world of rope
Rope Games- Shibari can also be considered a game. Just like for children, games are a valuable tool for learning and connection. We will play some games to break the ice and get silly with ropes.
Skill Sharing- I will facilitate a small peer to peer skill exchange. We will decide as a group what you want to focus on, whether that is about a particular position/harness, body handling or about communication practices in Shibari.
Session time- Participants are invited to tie freely at this time. This is a good opportunity to learn by watching and 'steal' techniques from other peoples sessions. I will also be open to tying with a few people on the day, if you want to experience my rope at this time. It is best to come early and we can get to know each other during tea time before approaching me for a tie.

Forms: Mermaid
Forms: Mermaid
with Syd
This is a suspension level class exploring “classic” forms. Through in depth guided instruction and hands-on practice we will examine the artistry and function of commonly seen static shapes. Emphasis will be placed on creative expression, sustainability in suspension, and awareness of safety and risk considerations. Students will refine their rope handling, tension, control, precision, and flow, while continuing to build the scaffolding of their Shibari technique.
This class is best suited for tying partners who have a strong grasp of fundamentals (see prerequisites below) and tie together frequently. This class is not recommended as anyone’s first suspension, but all steps, including building uplines, will be shown in full.
More often than not, these forms will be demonstrated with a TK. It’s not *required* for students to recreate the tie with a TK, and students will always be encouraged to adapt their ties to their wants and needs. Adaptability, sustainability, and creativity will be greatly emphasized and encouraged in this class. Some time will be dedicated to each class to work through the nuances and particularities of the TK or the harness alternative of the students choosing.
Prerequisites:
Rigger prerequisites: experience building and assessing suspendable harnesses, some experience with tk is encouraged but not required, some experience building static uplines, confident in rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope
Bottom prerequisites: confident in-rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope, confident ability to monitor and communicate signs of nerve compression, some experience with tk is encouraged but not required
Supplies:
One full rope kit. This class will be taught on bamboo, no additional rigging gear is required.

Shibari Theater
Shibari Theater
With Tati Limati
Shibari Theater is a unique performance that immerses the audience in a profound world of emotions, feelings, and personal stories. It raises important questions, touching on triggers and details that awaken long-forgotten experiences and reveal new dimensions of sensation. This is an art form where the rope becomes not just a tool, but a means of genuine communication between the performers and the audience.
At the core of the theatre lies a synthesis of various art forms: dance, Aikido, contact improvisation, and live music. These elements intertwine during a 40-minute journey of transformation, culminating in a refined and elegant tea ceremony, creating an atmosphere of calm and completeness.

10 Ropes – 10 Stories
10 Ropes – 10 Stories
With Tati Limati
A creative Shibari suspension journey
In this workshop, we’ll work with 10 ropes—each one suspended from above and each one holding a story, a feeling, a theme. Together, we’ll explore dynamic suspensions as a way to create a wide range of emotional and somatic experiences.
This is a very freestyle, expressive approach—where the person tying becomes the artist, and the bottom becomes the living sculpture. It’s not only about beautiful technique. It’s about shapes, movement, and body manipulation that convey an intentional story—maybe a story of fear, or love, or tenderness, or lightness.
You’ll need 10 ropes of standard size, and a ring for suspension (or 10 carabiners)
Please come with a rope partner who has suspension experience.
Wear appropriate clothing (no nudity).
We’ll also offer an option to take photos and videos of your final creation—so dress accordingly if you’d like to capture your work.
This will be a unique exploration, something that breaks patterns and invites you to move beyond what you already know. Let’s create something unexpected—together.

Tengu and Shapes That Go With It
Tengu and Shapes That Go With It
With Sydona
A deep dive into the Tengu – a sustainable yet restrictive chest harness, and the shapes that go with it. Each class will focus on a distinct form, varying in intensity and complexity, examining how the Tengu’s structure, as opposed to any other chest harness, influences both the aesthetic and sensory experience of each position. Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, we will analyze the nuances of tension, weight distribution, and body mechanics to refine our comfort, control, and flow.
This class is best suited for tying partners who have a strong grasp of fundamentals (see prerequisites below) and tie together frequently. This class is not recommended as anyone’s first suspension, but all steps, including building uplines, will be shown in full.
The first portion of this class will be spent “pattern building” the Tengu. Students will be guided through variations and adaptations so that they can create the ~Tengu of their dreams~ crafted perfectly for them. Adaptability, sustainability, and creativity will be greatly emphasized and encouraged in this class.

We’ll work through hands-on exercises with plenty of room for customization and play. Our focus is on intimacy, sensuality through simple ties and opportunities for freeform tying.
This class does not include suspension, but we will talk a bit about how some of these concepts apply in suspension and how the risks increase.
Prerequisites:
Tops should be able to confidently tie a single column tie, reverse tension, and half hitches
Bottoms should be comfortable with verbal and nonverbal communication

Hogtie Rodeo
Hogtie Rodeo
with William
It’s a hogtie ho-down! William will be demonstrating a variety of hogties ranging from single rope (ichinawa) to partially suspendable variations. Want to turn your bottom into a suitcase? We can do that. Want to immobilize someone so they can be your prey? Yes, we do.
During these escalating ties, we will be going over body movement techniques, rope handling tips and tricks, and how to combine single and double column ties with hojo cuffs while employing a variety of frictions. If you’re new to futomomos (leg binds) we’ll be going over simple versions that are great for floor ties and partials.
Attendees should come in pairs and bring 6-8 lengths of rope depending on how deep you want to go in the ties. Prerequisites for this workshop are Rope0 and Roped In.

Under Wraps
Under Wraps
With Anya Demure & Donna With The Mouth
In this interactive class, Anya and Donna will discuss important bottoming skills such as body awareness, communication, and vetting. They will also cover physical and emotional aspects of safety before, during, and after a scene. Anya and Donna will incorporate hands-on exercises throughout so that attendees can practice some of these skills.
This class welcomes bottoms, tops, and switches alike, because these skills are valuable for everyone. But the discussion will center the voices, perspectives, and needs of rope bottoms (people in rope / people who get tied). People of all experience levels, ranging from people curious to try being tied to experienced rope bottoms, are welcome. Attendees do not need a partner for this workshop.
Teacher Bios
Anya Demure (she/her) is a rope bondage enthusiast, teacher, and performer who is especially jazzed about beginners' education! She is keen on creating and embodying interesting physical shapes, and delights in enduring physically challenging rope experiences. For her, rope bondage is endurance, sex, exercise, community, movement, art, collaboration, and mutual experience. She is also dedicated to promoting bottom-inclusive education and presentation, and fostering safe, friendly, and encouraging learning environments. She has been fortunate to teach, tie, and be tied in various communities in the US and abroad, but calls Brooklyn home.
Donna with the Mouth (she/her) is Brooklyn-based masochist who has been active in the NYC scene since 2015. Her kinks -- from impact to rope bondage -- explore the limits of power and endurance within a framework of active communication. She also performs as a rope bottom at kink and leather festivals across the United States and Canada. As a bondage educator, Donna works to pass on her years of experience in rope to foster community, encourage exploration, and increase accessibility. Most of all, she is passionate about open communication and collaborative negotiation, recognizing the vulnerability of exploration on both sides of the slash.

Roped-In
Roped-In: The second step in Temple’s progressive core curriculum
A four part series on the foundations of rope play through the lens of embodiment and intentionality.
July 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd from 7-9:30pm.
Join Mrghy and friends on this journey to begin an intentional, body-based, connective rope practice. While lots of time will be spent on rope handling and skill building, this course will focus on both ends of the rope, to serve both folks giving and receiving it. Switching is welcome but not necessary!
The classes will cover:
Session 1: Basic tension, frictions, and knots; collapsible and non-collapsible single-column ties. Risk assessment and mitigation, nerve safety overview.
Session 2: Body handling and affective rope skills; how to move a body; how to use rope to move a body. Double-column ties.
Session 3: Somatics for rope; Hojo cuffs and Yuki fix; One-rope practice (Ipponnawa)
Session 4: Floor-based ties; how to use rope to bind a body in a shape for play.
Each session includes a discussion, a short demo, and plenty of practice time, leading to building a full, floor-based rope scene.
There are no technical prerequisites for this course but Rope 0 is required before you can take Roped In. Registered pairs should remain the same throughout (learning buddies are the best!).
Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome, and any comfortable outfit you like to move in. We will have some jute rope to use for practice, but we encourage you to bring your own (so you can practice at home between sessions!). 2-3 pieces will suffice, any material is welcome.
RSVP is $280 per tying pair for the 4 sessions

Sustainable Suspensions: Day 2
Sustainable Suspensions— Dynamic Transitions
with Hajime Kinoko
Building on a new harness by Hajime Kinoko that is designed to function well for Masc, AMAB and bigger bodies, we will be working through a series of suspensions with in air transitions.
World renown Shibari artist Hajime Kinoko is well known for his unique rope art installations and for his elegant and dynamic performances. Both require a high level of precision and ingenuity based on years of study, practicing more traditional techniques and shapes in suspension. His creativity and ingenuity has taken Kinoko’s work to whole new levels. Sustainability is key to making his durational performances last.
For this workshop, Kinoko will share a variety of harnesses and techniques that he has developed to create sustainable suspensions that can be used on a wide variety of bodies. We will learn how to extend scenes with more focus on time in the air, giving tops and bottoms more space to explore depth and connection in flight.
Day 2 builds on the work of Day 1, but is also accessible for those who have not attended the previous day. This class is intended for couples that have some experience together in suspension. This is considered an intermediate level suspension class. Riggers should have a functional practice with Gote ties to build on.
You must purchase one ticket per day you wish to attend.
Tickets are $350 per tying pair per day
$70 deposit, $280 cash at the start of class. $350 total

Forms: Gyaku-Ebi
Forms: Gyaku-Ebi
Tickets sold as pairs
RSVP $75 per pair
