Strategic Upline Management

Strategic Upline Management

with Bondagious & Thumper

After a recent performance review, your supervisor has identified you for an advanced seminar! Join Bondagious & Thumper for a deep dive into single point upline management in order to sharpen your decision-making skills while improvising in suspension.

Participants will:

  • assess the merits of different lock-off types and positions, and when to use them

  • apply decision-tree thinking to track which opportunities are opened—or foreclosed— by each choice

  • make purposeful use of available rope without burning future options

  • identify and maintain viable emergency exit strategies

  • refine rope handling while raising, lowering, braking, managing multiple lines, and unblocking jams.

People in rope will deepen their understanding of risk mitigation in suspension, strengthening their ability to critically assess technique and communicate with potential partners.

Gain nuanced skills and frameworks while drilling efficient rope handling to build muscle memory and impress your enemies!

Prerequisites:

This is a skill-refining masterclass for people with significant prior suspension experience. We will not cover foundational techniques; rather, we focus on tying off and managing multiple lines in both static and dynamic contexts. This is not an introduction to uplines.

Materials:

Please bring hardware for single point suspension: carabiners, rings, plates, etc, as well as all rope you deem necessary for static and dynamic suspension.

Instructor Bios

Bondagious (he/him) snared Thumper (they/he) on a rope date in 2019, and have been tying tangible and intangible bonds ever since. Based in Montreal, Canada, they are influenced by Akechi Kanna and Yukimura Haruki styles (Japan), approaching rope as a tool for communication and connection. Drawing on the dynamic, high-impact minimalism of Tifereth (Toronto) as well as their own backgrounds in performance, they aim to surprise and delight audiences—and each other.

Since 2022 they have presented workshops and performed across North America, including the inaugural editions of Men Roping Men (San Francisco) and Tying Masc Bodies (Chicago) conferences. In 2019 they founded Men’s Rope Night in Montreal, a monthly community event for GBTQ+ men.
