To maintain safety while navigating toxic cultural norms, we’re often quick to put on a good face while enduring difficult circumstances. Kink offers a space to potentially put down our public-facing masks and allow ourselves to be expressive. Yet what often shows up is a different version of performativity, where we squeeze to fit into fixed roles cast by internet culture and porn in order to feel successful and accepted.

Find ways to drop rote performative gestures and lean into fantasy that feels credible and motivated in the moment. Drawing on their backgrounds in performance, Bondagious & Thumper will explore strategies to show up emotionally and be expressive in play. 

Prerequisites:

This class is oriented for advanced beginner level and up: partners who are familiar with various tying techniques and who wish to explore elements of emotional intimacy and intensity. It is not a pattern-focused workshop and we will not teach nor review technical elements of tying.

Materials:

Nothing specific beyond the materials participants deem necessary for their involvement.

Instructor Bios

Bondagious (he/him) snared Thumper (they/he) on a rope date in 2019, and have been tying tangible and intangible bonds ever since. Based in Montreal, Canada, they are influenced by Akechi Kanna and Yukimura Haruki styles (Japan), approaching rope as a tool for communication and connection. Drawing on the dynamic, high-impact minimalism of Tifereth (Toronto) as well as their own backgrounds in performance, they aim to surprise and delight audiences—and each other.

Since 2022 they have presented workshops and performed across North America, including the inaugural editions of Men Roping Men (San Francisco) and Tying Masc Bodies (Chicago) conferences. In 2019 they founded Men’s Rope Night in Montreal, a monthly community event for GBTQ+ men.
