Gravity is the Enemy (My Friend)
Level 3 with William
Intro to Partials and Uplines/ Elevated Play comes with Elevated Risk!
We play with bodies and rope, let’s add to the mixture and play with elevation and gravity. Adding even one upline offers profound possibilities to push and pull, enhance tension and begin the ascent from the floor into the air. We will be building sustainable harnesses for upper and lower body and work through a variety of exercises focusing on the formation and use of secure uplines to build partial suspensions. Rather than seeing this as a step towards suspension, we will be exploring the space in between floor and air.
Each class will focus on a set of harness for upper and lower body which could include variations of: Hip harnesses, Leg binders, Shinju, Gote, Tengu, Hands Front)
Introduction to Uplines: Multiple hitching styles, securing to bamboo, tying off on the way up, multiple lock off styles.
Body handling techniques employing uplines
Anatomical considerations, nerve pathways and impingement, circulation impairment, risk of injury
Prerequisites:
We strongly recommend that students have taken several level two classes, or comparable floor level classes, before attending this level. We require at least one partner of each pair to have taken Rope0.
Rigger prerequisites: some experience following patterns and building harnesses, confident in rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope
Bottom prerequisites: confident in-rope communication skills, knowledge of safety and risk in rope, confident ability to monitor and communicate signs of nerve compression
