Renbaku Salon

Renbaku Salon

with Murasaki

In this session, we will perform "Renbaku," observe the events that unfold together, and share our insights. "Renbaku" is a term combining the words for "continuous" and "tying." Here, it takes the form of two or more riggers alternating in their work with a single model.

"When the sensation (input) changes, the model's feelings change. And when the feelings change, the expression (output) changes."

This principle lies at the heart of Yukimura-ryu. Beyond technique, the changing of tying hands becomes a powerful influence that causes a shift in the model's emotional state. The model’s ability to express these changes, and the riggers’ capacity to perceive them, are sensitivities that can be cultivated through renbaku.

This gathering is an invitation to witness these transformations as they arise in real time. It is not a performance, but a space for attentive presence and lived experience. Murasaki will gently guide the session—at times joining in the tying, at times offering observations and suggestions—supporting a deeper awareness of what emerges in each moment.

Instructor Bio:
Murasaki Haruan is the official successor of Yukimura-ryu Kinbaku and the founder of Grace Rope Lab. She began her career as a professional Mistress in 2002, a path that led her to meet her mentor, Yukimura Haruki. In 2003, she became his student and later supported his work as an on-set assistant during film productions, deepening her understanding of his methods and philosophy.

In 2014, she became the first Japanese person and the first woman to be certified as “Yukimura-ryu Nawaasobi Instructor No. 10.” Following Yukimura Haruki’s passing in 2016, she assumed the role of his official successor, dedicating herself to preserving and carrying forward his artistic and philosophical legacy.

In 2018, she retired from professional Mistress work to focus fully on teaching and transmitting the principles she developed through Yukimura-ryu and her extensive session experience. Since 2017, she has led workshops internationally and gained wide recognition for her distinctive approach. Her private lessons in Japan attract students from around the world, including other instructors, performers, professional dominants, and experienced practitioners from diverse traditions.

With more than two decades of experience, Murasaki’s teaching extends beyond form and technique. Drawing on her background, she emphasizes psychological nuance, communication, and relational awareness. She is particularly known for her approach to tying men and for her focus on dialogue with the receiver, often explored through a distinctly feminine perspective. She works with participants of all genders.

While continuing to uphold Yukimura-ryu as a living traditional Japanese kinbaku lineage, she has also founded Grace Rope Lab. This project is rooted in her interest in the somatic and psychological effects of rope, exploring how rope-based practices can support self-integration, awareness, and human connection in contemporary life.

Her work seeks to honor tradition while opening new possibilities—expanding rope practice as both an art form and a means of personal and relational exploration for future generations.
