Yukimura-Ryu Foundations

This workshop is for those who wish to learn Yukimura-ryu and explore rope as a form of communication. The content is intended for beginners of the Yukimura-ryu style. Even if you have extensive experience or advanced skills in rope, we welcome anyone who joins with a sincere desire to learn this style from the ground up.

The core principles of Yukimura-ryu emphasize Ipponawa work, minimal rope use, and the exploration of form and affect. The focus will be on the expressive and intimate dimension of the style, which can look much simpler than semenawa or more performative styles, but is deeply complex and layered in its emotional engagement.

A note from Murasaki for participants:

The duration or depth of your relationship does not matter, as long as you are part of a pair where you can honestly express what you feel to one another.

I believe that exchanging feedback regarding your sensations and your emotions in the moment is vital. Furthermore, we warmly welcome those who are open to sharing their insights with the rest of the participants, if possible (though this is entirely voluntary and not a requirement).

Additionally, as part of our communication practice, we will engage in exercises to connect emotionally. This will occasionally involve physical touch and tying in close proximity. Please ensure that you join with a partner with whom you are comfortable sharing this level of touch and physical closeness.
