TK Foundation

TK Foundation

(AKA: the Takate Kote, Gote or Box Tie)

Leven 2 with William

Who’s afraid of the big bad Tekate Kote? Me too.

This tie is seminal to the practice of Shibari, legendary and ubiquitous, but it is also well known for being dangerous for a variety of reasons. Rather than avoiding this iconic tie, let’s study and practice it together in order to have it as a functional part of our harnessing skillset.

In this workshop, we will be working on the first two ropes that form the essential foundation of almost any variation of Tekate Kote. Most importantly, we will be focusing on setting our bodies to their optimal posture for receiving these ropes. We will also be discussing nerve pathways and inherent risks of over-arm ties as well as introducing an up line in order to “load test” the ties. This class will set you up to have a much better understanding of the basic form, ways to create optimal tension, and how to mitigate and manage risk. Participants will be able to learn a wide variety of TK structures building on this essential foundation. William will offer variations to suit people with less flexibility as well as hypermobile/ hyper flexible bodies.
